“Requiem II, 9-11”

Forming a lexicon of colors, forms and shapes observed along the Mississippi River as a child: the great river, the way of water, and the nighttime sky infuse my spirit with wonder, excitement and mystery. Where are we? What are we? Forms of change, energy and particles taking shapes creates meaning in metaphor about the human experience.

Indigo, Color of the Night and the Notion of Infinity, is often the first color laid before composition. This color represents the yearning in my heart for greater understanding in all the questions I have, and it brings me home to myself as in this story and ancient theory about the color Indigo.

Long Ago and Far Away, High God lived in the Sky. The Sky was low in those days; people could reach up, break off a Slice of Sky, and eat it when they were Lonely for High God. One day, High God moved higher in the Sky so people could no longer break him up. Lonely for High God, the people wept hard everyday. Lovingly, High God created the recipe for Indigo dye to ensure that people would never be lonely for High God again.

To this day, Indigo remains the people’s favorite.
